Ok, so if you’ve read my “About Me” section, you’d probably find that it’s just a little vague. But don’t you find that the more closely you get to something or the more deeply you observe a detail, the more vague it gets? Mainly, I think it’s the problem of linguistics. The essence of something is rarely exactly captured by words. But hell, we try anyways don’t we? Besides, in the process of trying, we often come up with some pretty beautiful stuff…like poetry, and art, and music…all the things that attempt to communicate how we truly feel and what we truly are. May be the point doesn’t always get across, but some other points do. Sometimes, those other points matter more.
But there I go again…mind wandering (sorry I do that a lot). Let’s get back to the specifics.
I am 25-year-old Vietnamese-American woman. I came to the US of A at the age of 11. Though culturally, I have two identities, I rarely think of myself as either “Vietnamese” or “American” or a combination of both. But if asked which culture I relate with more, I’d have to say American. For one, I’m very independent and for two, I became fluent in English within 3 months of living here and since then have been a great lover of English literature (I don’t really know why, but may be it’s fate that I am here?).
I graduated with an MA degree in English about 2 years ago. Then I became a teacher, which by the way, is not a fun experience but I’ll get into that later. And now, my day time job is as an editor for the Neurosurgery Journal, located at USC. It’s a job that gets me by and I love my co-workers, but other than that, I’d rather be writing (as I am doing right now), reading (currently engrossed in the Harry Potter series), taking pictures (I’ll show them off soon), and traveling (Jamaica is the highlight of my travels so far). My long-term goal is to quit my day time job and pursue hobbies as a living instead.
A little foreshadowing: I obsess a lot about my past (but trust me, it’s a pretty interesting past, or so people have told me when they’ve heard my stories) and I also make lots of daily observations and often wander off topic into more philosophical ruminations. Thank you for allowing me to carry you off into my wanderings and feel free to carry me off into yours!
Haha…don’t we all obsess about our past. I look forward to reading your posts. I write a food blog but I’m having a little trouble maintaining it regularly.
I love the way your mind wanders!
what made you choose wordpress for your blog?
i chose wordpress b/c my bf, who knows much more about the internet than I do, suggested it. when i checked it out, it has a lot of personalizing options so that was another plus. so far, i like it!
